Sightseeings in Rio

There are so much more than just good beaches in Rio. It's the city, it's atmosphere, friendly people and great sightseeings. There was a day (2nd day of our stay in Rio) when in one day we saw every attraction tourists would normally go to. We hired a little bus (actually Bruno and his parents did) and a guide who would bring us to those top Rio destinations and tell us about them. One of them is of cause Christ the Redeemer. That place as simply wonderful. No wonder Katia and Bruno when they visited it for the first time spent 4 hours hanging around the Christ statue. We didn't have so much time though as we had so many things to see, but 1 hour we spent there was quite enough. It's not just about Christ statue which by itself is great, but it's also the location and the surroundings that make it so attractive. It's situated on the top of one of Rio's hills and once you on the top it opens fantastic views of Rio and it's seaside.

We've been to Maracana too. Maracana is a huge football stadium where important football events take place. It either used to be or still is the biggest stadium in the world and is going to host 2014 World Cup. As I am not a big fan of football, and probably not even close becoming one, this place wasn't much of interest to me, but there were still some amusing things to do. You could see footprints of famous Brazilian football players and take pictures next to their posters which we did.

And this one the picture below on the left which doesn't like anything special at all is, actually, a very important place. It's Sambadrom, the place where Rio's Carnival participants perform by walking along the street.

Sugar Loaf mountain is probably second most visited place in Rio. It's name is coming from it's shape as it looks similar to concentrated refined loaf sugar. To get there we took a cable car which I was told was the only cable car in Brazil, so it also was quite an amazing sightseeing to take a cable car ride on the unique Brazilian cable car. This however turned out to be not true, as Bruno said there is another cable car in some other Brazilian part going into some cave.
