Trip to Sahara

Our Saraha desert trip was panned even 2 months before we arrived to Morocco. I read about this particular tour on tripadvisor which had some excellent reviews and contacted the organizer to book a tour. He siad it's fin, however I should make a deposit of 150 Euro into his account to secure places in the car. It felt very dodgy at first when I was asked to transfer the money to somebody's account and I pretty much gave up on that tour, but read some good reviews of other people doing the same thing and gave it a go. Turned out to be all well. The organizer met us on a agreed place in Marrakech and we all went to the desert. Whew!

The trip took 3 days as the desert was very far away from Marrakech. We stopped every 30 minutes to enjoy nice views and listen to the guide. Our first night we stayed in a hotel which was very lovely. We had an incredibly delicious dinner near the fireplace and a very beautiful view of the mountains from our window.

The next day we continued our trip to the desert and in the late afternoon we finally reached it. There were already camels and 3 berbers waiting for us. Berbers are people who originally descended from North Africa. I was told that 70% of Moroccans are berbers with the rest being Arabs. Those guys helped us to sit on the camels and in 1 hour of ride we reached the tents where we were supposed to stay overnight. By the time we arrived it was almost freezing and everyone put all the cloths they brought with them. The sun was about to sat down and we we all headed up the closest mountain to see it. It was a little cloudy, but still very beautiful. When we got back to the tents berbers already made us dinner, traditional cous-cous with tagine. Just after the dinner berbers told us to go outside and see the moon rise. I had no idea that moon rise is not less spectacular than sunrise.

Then after sitting around fire place and listening to berber songs and music we all went to sleep. Actually it wasn't exactly the case, bucause nobody slept that night. It was freezing, and even numerous blankets that berbers gave to each of us could not warm anyone. So we just lay there until almost 5 a.m. when berbers "woke us up" to see the sunrise and take a camel ride back to the car which would take us back to Marrakech.
