Taormina and surroundings

We are already 5 days in Sicily and finally arrived to Erice, the town where we will stay for a week until the end of Andrejs courses. Sicily is amazing! This adjective perfectly describes it.

Taormina was the first town we visited (not counting Catania, the city where we flew, but didn't really see anything, as our guide book said Catania isn't a beautiful city - literally). Taormina is a sea resort in the North-East seaside of Sicily. The most popular in Sicily, I was told. Some part of it is also situated on the mountain. Basically this resort is very spread. That is what we didn't know and didn't have a proper map, so we were driving around the mountain to find something that might look like one town and didn't realize we were already in the right place.

Some views of the town from the top. Ionian sea looks really blue.

On a neighbor mountain there is a small town or a village.

A view of Taormina's old town with the Greek theater on the left top.

Greek theater, built in 300 BC is one of the "must-see" things in Taormina, as it's also a very good spot to see Mount Etna. The dark mountain that you might see far away is not Etna. Etna is just behind it. See it? No? Ok, ok... It was really cloudy that day and we don't have any pictures of it, but I swear I saw Etna! Not from the Greek theater, but while driving when it wasn't too cloudy. It looked really good! So I decided if I ever come back to Sicily again, I am going to go for a hike there.

December maybe is not the best time to visit Sicily, but there are some good things about it too. One of them - no tourists. We were all alone in Greek theater.

I have thousands of them... will try to upload every day something. Thank you Diana, miss you too, expecially our coffee times! :) Actually it was warmer while we were traveling, however, here in Erice which is on the top of a mountain is quite cold, maybe even colder than in Bolzano.
