Because of my enthusiasm to travel more and drive longer we could have missed that nice hostel that was literally in the middle of nowhere. Well...not exactly, as it was actually at the seaside, and very close from the main road, but in a completely unpopulated area of Southern Iceland.
Andrejs however insisted we call it a day and stay at that hostel which was run by an
elderly couple. On the entrance there was another tourist who just arrived and was filling in papers in reception and asked if he could have
pancakes for breakfast. I though that's a bit weird to ask for
pancakes for breakfast in a hostel, but asked the tourist if he is sure they are
serving them to what he replied: this hostel is famous for it's pancakes!!! It was good to know and we ordered them for breakfast as well. They were very good!
As from one side of the hostel there was sea, on the other side there were mountains. In the evening we climbed one of the hiking paths up, saw a waterfall (no surprise here, waterfalls in Iceland are simply everywhere), then went down to the seaside, so
pieceful and so quiet, then went back to the hostel and had a nice hot tea. Probably doesn't sound like anything exciting, but for me it was one of the nicest days in Iceland.
