Day 16-17, Two days hiking in Himalayas

When we arrive to a new province we discover there are much more to see than we have planned. We didn't plan that hiking trip to the mountains, but then we saw some pictures in one travel agency from that trip and decided to do it!
The route was going through China's deepest gorge, with high peaks on both sides, where the highest peak was 5500 m.

30-km track was not very easy to follow. At some point there were very steep turns up the mountain. There were 26 of them, and it took us about 3 hours to climb them. After we were completely exhausted.

Legend says that in order to escape from a hunter, a tiger jumped across the river at the narrowest point which is still 25 metres wide and in order to simplify the task first he jumped on that stone. Just like that...

I am just above that point

Some views from hiking.

Approximately every 3-5 hours you can find a guest house provided by local people, called Naxi where you can rest or stay overnight. Back in the days (also often very true nowadays) in Naxi society women were controlling the business and also are doing the most of work, men in this matriarchal society were mostly gardeners or musicians.
Naxi houses

We stayed in one guest house, situated somewhere in the middle of our way. They had very comfortable rooms and served very tasty food, we had a very good rest there.

In the morning we continued following the track, but this time it was much easier, mostly descending. On our way there was a waterfall, with very slippery stones which we had to go through. Quite an experience!

What doesn't fit in this picture?

Very acrobatic goat. It stood with all it's legs on the tree branches and eating leaves above the 200 m gorge!

And, probably, acrobatic goat's friends, looking at us, while we passing by

I can't look at this picture!

After hiking we planned to go to Shangri-la, another town of that region to visit. It was quite late and we could miss the last bus going there, if we wouldn't go down very fast. Luckily the car passing by stopped and offered us a ride to get down. That was crazy! The road was so narrow that the car was just 1 m from the gorge and there were almost no fence anywhere. The road also was going through the same waterfall we previously went through, so the water was going through the road and again no fence! Moreover the road was very stony, the car was swinging and shaking back and forth. Opposite to me Andrejs was completely excited about it and the views around, he took maybe 1000 of pictures!
